Residence of H.I.M Haile Selassie 1st of Ethiopia who was exiled in the United Kingdom from 1936-41; following the invasion of Ethiopia by Mussolini’s Italy. It was from this house that the Emperor conducted the resistance movement and planned his return to Ethiopia

It was at this house that eminent Black activist from the USA; visited Emperor Haile Selassie 1st to plan the creation of an International organisation which would galvanise the international Black community and secure financial and concrete aid to support refugees and assist in the Liberation of Ethiopia.

The discussions that took place lead to the creation and subsequent incorporation of the Ethiopian World Federation Incorporated which carried out its remit as above including the direct support of Emperor Haile Selassie and his family during the time of their exile in Bath UK

water for lifeRain Water Harvesting Project – Shashamane

The Ethiopian World Federation Incorporated has successfully completed the first phase of the Rain Water Harvesting Project, having installed 165 concrete rain water collection systems to home in the community of Shashamane. The Project has been led by Ras Tagassa King and Brother Moody and created some work for members, although the emphasis is to create work for the local Ethiopian community. The Organisation has now submitted to the Bureau of Finance and Economic Development, (BoFED) and the Water Resource Bureau of the Oromiya Government here in Addis Ababa our “Extension” Phase Project Document. This document includes our proposal for the repair and maintenance of the already completed 165 Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) systems as outlined in their Evaluation Report conducted, which was conducted in August 2007. The Project has so far received 97,660 ETB from the German Embassy.
The Chief Resident Country Representative, Mr. Moody is currently compiling all receipts of purchases made for “non-perishable goods” that have been procured already in lieu of commencing actual construction of the RWH Systems.
As regards cement, we need to sign a new Tripartite Agreement in order to acquire a Supporting Letter from BoFED to purchase cement at Factory prices direct from the Government Supplier. As regards rehabilitating RWH tanks that are in disrepair, a survey has been completed, identifying shape of Tank, type of repair needed and quantity of materials required.
Our Extension Phase Project proposes that the costs for these repairs comes from the recipient which will enhance their understanding that these RWH systems belong to them and should therefore be maintained by them, (all as recommended in the BoFED Evaluation Report.
As regards exact locations of RWH systems indicated on a MAP; we have after much Bureaucracy purchased two Maps from the Federal Urban Planning Dept. here in Addis Ababa that are at a reasonable scale that locations can be plotted on. We are now in contact with the local Authorities in Shahsemane to provide us with a Technician who can assist in plotting the locations on to the Map. ………………………………………………………………………
