Convention 2010 Jamaica a great success

We the Executive Council of the Ethiopian World Federation Incorporated registered with the Internal Revenue Services, Charities Bureau and New York State Department wish to announce the successful completion of our Annual Convention held at the Willow Winds, Salem, Runaway Bay, Jamaica 2010. The event was extremley well attended by delegates from New York, Miami, London, Montego Bay, St Ann, Birmingham and Paris with other members from across Jamaica including local 43 Kingston. Many other members and visitors came from various groups Nyabinghi, Millenium Council, Bo Bo and others were also in attendance. Local guest included the Chief of Police from Runaway Bay also a Christian Minister who gave very good speeches. All locals gave reports also individual members kept a private session where we were encouraged not to allow any small group to distract the Fedreation; all locals in Jamaica agreed to work with whoever had the legal documents. CERTIFICATION 2010 FAILED ATTEMPT!!!!

BREAKING NEWS CERTIFICATION FAILED ATTEMPT All members and public be notified that an attempt to certify an election; was made by a separate company Ethiopian World Federation Local Number One Incorporated  1996. The above company along with others attempted to gain from the New York State Supreme Court; Certification for a meeting disguised as the Ethiopian World Federation Incorporated 1937 Convention 2009 held in New York. Part of the plan was to employ a court certified Parliamentarian who was expected to validate an election. An order has now been issued by Hon Judge Bruce Balter April 6th 2010; in line with what has been previously stated by the Executive Council the said individuals found the situation was not as simple as they had first thought. Mosaic Ethiopia To Spend $270 Million on Roads Ethiopia has set aside 8 billion Birr to construct new roads and upgrade dilapidated ones in 2009. Mr Samson Wondimu, public relations head of the Ethiopian Roads Authority said that Ethiopia has spent $3.6 billion over the past decade to build 101,359 km of asphalt and gravel roads. Recognising the importance of road transport in supporting social and economic growth and in meeting poverty alleviation, the government has placed increased emphasis on improving the quality and size of road infrastructure. The development of Ethiopia’s road network was given top priority as a core component of its economic progress. (more…)

barack-obamaI welcome any opportunity to participate in the history of African people, whether on the Continent or in the Diaspora. The Inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama as the 44th President of the USA on 20th January 2009 presented such an opportunity. Like many, I had watched Barack’s dignified and strategic campaign against Hilary Clinton and John McCain for the Presidency, during my seven month visit to Africa. I had shared the euphoria of Barack’s Presidential victory with one’s in South Africa, Mozambique and Ethiopia. Nothing however, compared to the sense of pride and achievement amongst African Americans, that I discovered during my visit to Washington DC for the Inauguration. African Americans that I spoke to were not of the opinion that Barack’s victory was going to change things overnight, or that he could miraculously improved the serious economic plight that the USA is now suffering from or that he could meet the needs of all black people. Ethiopia: Country Liberalises Radio and Television May Follow, Supports Thriving Local Film Culture

sattelite-dishesThe Ethiopian Government is best known for the tight control it has exerted over the political process of the country. Therefore it comes of something of a surprise to learn that it has made the development of media a priority and with a certain amount of external prompting has liberalised the radio sector. Two new private radio stations have been launched (more will follow) and community radio stations have also started broadcasting. Well-informed sources say that there will be a new private free-to-air television channel within two years. Against this backdrop, the country is also sustaining a significant local film culture in Amharic. Based on figures from the last census, there are probably between 1-2 million television sets and around 8 million radio sets in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Radio and TV Agency have overall responsibility for the state run channels but radio and TV have their own organisation and management. ETV is completely supported by Government money and advertising. There is no licence fee. (more…)
